Rice

Named after Blessed Edmund Rice.

Founder of the Christian Brothers who were instrumental in developing Saint John’s Campus.  Many Christian Brothers served in Whyalla and left an indelible mark on the College. 

Edmund Rice was a widowed father of a daughter named Mary with special needs. He devoted himself to providing Catholic Education to boys from families in need, setting up schools in Ireland in the 19th Century.
