Social Justice

"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'  Matthew 25:40

We seek to work in partnership with various Catholic organisations to bring about social justice and change for communities and individuals.  Primarily this is achieved locally through our work with students in treating one another and their neighbours with fairness, generosity and hospitality.  In a more global sense we educate students about social justice action through their participation in a variety of school activities to assist overseas aid programs and Australian based development programs.

Working with Catholic Education SA, and the guidelines provided relating to the support of charities, the college has chosen to support Catholic organisations that work for social justice in world regions at a grass roots level.

The organisations which meet this criteria and are therefore our nominated charities include:-

St Vincent de Paul Society – Whyalla; Catholic Missions Australia; and Caritas Australia.

The College also realises that in our own community, from time to time, we have local needs which we feel require a compassionate response from our community.  A locally based family, community member or local group that is facing a challenging difficulty may be compassionately supported by the college. Each year the students nominate a fourth local need recipient for their fundraising.

The Student Representative Council and aspects of the Religious Education Program work to raise awareness of Social Justice issues and provide opportunities to respond to injustices.
