In the Early Years at Samaritan College, teachers' practice is informed by a contemporary educational philosophy and follows a developmentally appropriate approach. Teachers use a range of teaching and learning principles that deliver quality, personalised learning with a high level of student engagement.

The college acknowledges the specific developmental needs of children in the Early Years of schooling. Children benefit from hands-on learning in the form of investigations. Classrooms are organised into a variety of learning centres, providing opportunities for children to practice and reinforce the skills of inquiry, which are also taught during more formal and explicit lessons.

Social and emotional learning is complementary with academic learning. Early Years Learning environments are purposely designed to offer many opportunities for our students to learn a variety of skills including decision making, persistence, resilience, getting along, negotiating, organisation, problem dolving and risk taking. These complementary skills are crucial for lifelong learning.
